2016 Democratic National Convention Committee Announces Another Round of Staff Hires
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Democratic National Convention Committee is expanding its team in Philadelphia, adding three Directors and Chief Counsel in preparation for Convention planning. Each of them brings a unique skill set and vast experience in their respective fields. These additional staff members will help ensure that the 2016 Democratic Convention is forward-looking and successful. “I am thrilled that we continue to build such a strong and experienced team to keep us on time, on task, and on budget,” said Rev. Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the 2016 Democratic Convention. “I am confident that this talented group of individuals will help us meet our goal of making the 2016 Democratic National Convention the most diverse, engaging, and forward-looking Convention in history.”
Andrew Ballard, Director of Transportation
Andrew Ballard brings over 25 years of experience in managing transportation logistics for large-scale events to his role as Director of Transportation. This is Andrew’s sixth Democratic National Convention. In 2008, he was Director of Transportation for the Convention in Denver. He was also Director of Transportation for the 2009 and 2013 Presidential Inaugurations. He has planned transportation for national and international sporting events, corporate, and other high-profile events. His most recent project was the Visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia where his company, Transportation Systems Design, Inc. was contracted to manage transportation for the World Meeting of Families; Andrew was the overall transportation manager for the Papal Visit.
Danielle Cooper Daughtry, Chief Counsel
Danielle Cooper Daughtry brings 20 years of diverse legal experience to her role as Chief Counsel. Most recently, Danielle served as in-house counsel at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Prior to that, she worked as an associate at the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She has also worked in the public interest sector as an attorney for the Office of Appellate Defender. Danielle earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center and her Bachelor’s Degree from Spelman College.
Amy Chiou, Staff Director for Convention Complex
Amy Chiou joins the Convention team as Staff Director for Convention Complex. Amy is a self-proclaimed political nerd and the founder of Ballot, an app that will make voting easier by matching voters with candidates that share their political values and community priorities. She has over ten years of campaign experience and regularly advises candidates on strategy, messaging, and fundraising. Her experience includes federal, state and local campaigns, as well as a few successful student council elections. Amy is a graduate of the University of Texas and has a law degree from The George Washington University Law School.
Monica Ortiz, Director of Hall Management
Monica Ortiz joins the team as Director of Hall Management. She is an entrepreneur in Brooklyn, New York where she has directed several startups in the technology and consumer product sectors. Monica previously served as the Regional Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State Overseas Security Advisory Council, where she promoted public-private partnerships in Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa and South Central Asia. She began her career at the U.S. Department of State in 2005 as an analyst with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Monica worked as a legislative aide for the City of San Diego, California, and served with the United Nations Foundation, the 2004 DNCC and a U.S. presidential campaign. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of San Diego.

The 2016 Democratic Convention will be held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia July 25-28, 2016. Working in partnership with the Philadelphia Host Committee, the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, our goal is to make this the most engaging, innovative and forward looking Convention in history. The 2016 Democratic National Convention will leverage technology to take the Convention experience well beyond the hall in an effort to engage more Americans than ever before in the event. With the birthplace of American Democracy as a backdrop, the 2016 convention in Philadelphia will highlight our shared Democratic values and help put the Democratic nominee on a path to victory.
The Democratic Convention is the formal nominating event for the Democratic candidates for President and Vice President. At the Convention, the Democratic Party also adopts the official Democratic Party platform as well as the rules and procedures governing party activities including the nomination process for presidential candidates in the next election cycle.
